I hate bullies. I received this email this week and as i believe it is a common issue I thought I would deal with it in the blog
"I have been bullied by the team leader and the incident is under investigation. I have been signed off sick with stress and my employer has encouraged me to stay off sick until an employment review takes place. Worst case scenario I may be dismissed on grounds of capability as I cannot return to that role. I have decided to start looking for a new job however not sure how to explain my circumstances in an interview."
If you are in a union then seek advice as regards where you stand on issues of employment law. Being bullied out of a company (regardless of who in the company is instigating it) sounds like constructive dismisal to me. You need legal advice regarding this.
As regards what to say at your next interview. Many of us "leave under a cloud". You do not want to lie at your interview but you are not obliged to go into the details, especially in your situation. Prepare an answer to the question "why did you leave your last job?" and stick to it. Not getting on with a new boss after many years of contented service, is not going to scare off any future employer. Focus on what you have to offer and how your new employer will benefit from having you on board. Be positive and confident. Your CVs & Interviews Report will help you prepare for this.
